Question 11/6

What is your opinion on tattoos in the workplace? Do you think that people with tattoos should be turned down a job because of them? Why or why not? What factors should employers consider when dealing with tattoos?

  1. I do not believe people should be turned down for certain jobs just because they have tattoos. Tattoos are art that defines a person and just because a person has an owl on their arm does not mean they cannot do the job just as well as a person who does not have one.

  2. I do not believe in judgement of a person based on there tattoos. They may represent the person, but not necessarily how they would preform in the work force. I agree with Christine, tattoos do not affect how a person works.

  3. The person should not be judged if they have a tattoo because it is their body and their choice to have one. If the tattoo can be covered then it should be if it is a professional environment.

  4. I believe that people should not be turned down a job because they have tattoos. I think that it would be wrong for someone to do that. The tattoos that they have might mean something to them. If they also have a tattoo, they can still do their job properly. It wont make them not be able to do their job the right way.

  5. I think that tattoos, as long as they are not vulgar or offensive, should not make any impact on an employee's hiring to a company. However, tattoos make an exceptional visual impact on the employer and, although wrong, can actually lead to a prospective employee's hiring or not.

  6. I don't believe tattoos are acceptable in all work places. However there are many places on the body you can hide tattoos. I feel if you do have a tattoo you should be able to hide it however if you are more qualified than another person applying for a job who does not have tattoos you should get the job based on qualifications.

  7. In my opinion, people should not be turned down a job just because of a tattoo, or any sort of body art. Somebody who has a tattoo might be able to do the job 10x better than someone who can't; Jobs should be based off of ability, not appearance.

  8. If a tattoo is offensive or obscene, then there is a legitimate reason for it to be an obstacle for job opportunities. But the best tattoos have meaning. They are personal to the people who have them and they are important. I see no shame in that. I don't think that it is a red flag in terms of responsibility or dignity or intelligence. So as long as a tattoo isn't something that has some sort of malicious feel to it, then why not show it off? Why would you get something tattooed on your body if you're not proud of it? I also think that employers should consider a tattoo's meaning when they tell their employees to cover up. Something really mundane and simple could hold a very personal and very dramatic meaning to the person wearing it, and it could be very sensitive subject matter. So if an employer were to target that as a flaw, There would be great conflict.
